Larry Caprio's Medical Expense Fund

Here's how it all began. Late September, Dad (Larry) had a minor heart attack. This was followed by an angiogram; a procedure that is usually relatively risk free. During the angiogram, an artery was ruptured, resulting in an emergency triple bypass surgery. The recovery process has proved to be a challenge and it has become apparent that his heart was damaged further than was originally thought.

After being home for a few weeks, he began to show signs that fluid was being retained in his lungs and abdomen. This has resulted in multisystem organ failure, with his kidney and liver fighting to recover. He is currently undergoing continuous dialysis and has a heart pump in place to help take some of the strain off of his heart. We've also learned that he will eventually need an internal heart assist device until he can become a candidate for a heart transplant. 

He was air lifted to UCSD Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center November 30th and is receiving great care, but with this comes added expenses for our family. We're seeking financial support that will help offset costs of local lodging/travel for Mom (Jackie) and expenses related to Dad's medical care. We're unsure, at the moment, of what the future has in store, but this is a start and will help emmensely. Dad has been through a lot, but is fighting hard to stay with us. He loves life and everyone in it and we couldn't imagine life without him. We are grateful, beyond words, for any help you're able to provide.
