My best friend LaShawn Timmons dedicated her Life to young people.
She grew up roller skating in Alexandria, Virginia with her family and friends. She watched her mother drive the school bus for the City of Alexandria for over 20 years.
She loved working with kids and started her career in the Department of Recreation for the City of Alexandria in 1987. She was a youth leader that eventually became a Supervisor at Mount Vernon Recreational Center and Cora Kelly Recreational Center now called Leonard “Chick” Armstrong. She continued pouring into young people in Fairfax at the Mott Center and was the Supervisor of Camps and Teen Center in the City of Falls Church.
In 2016 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and battled with chemotherapy, infusions, hair loss, being sick and exhausted daily and she still was working until it became too much of a struggle. She continued to provide support to our elected official for the City of Alexandria Councilman John Chapman as his Aide.
LaShawn was well known for being family oriented with an infectious laugh, nurturing spirit, bright & colorful attitude and cool “Chucks.” She was a leader, brave, strong, beautiful, loving woman. She was an awesome sister, supportive and fun Aunt and a great friend.
She battled Breast, Brain and Lung Cancer. She fought like a Warrior with scars in this journey through her faith.
Help her family honor her LiFe and impact to the communities she served by contributing to her celebration of life service.
