Last missing piece for Rick!
Donation protected
UPDATE: Flights are booked and we’re heading to TX the beginning of August. We cannot thank everyone enough for their support and donations!!
Hi everyone! My name is Caroline, Rick’s wife, and I’m asking for help in raising funds so Rick can make a trip to Texas.
You see, eight years ago, Rick has a terrible, life changing motorcycle accident. He spent 99 days in the hospital and another 30 days in rehab, before coming home to his family.
Rick was split up his groin and sustained substantial damage to his lower abdomen, pelvic area, and backside. Since he was bleeding out, his artery has to be coiled in his groin, which left him with only half the blood supply he needed. Fast forward about 2 weeks and another visit to the operating room, where the trauma surgeon tells us that his lack of blood supply has caused his tissue in his right buttock to turn gangrene. They slowly started the process of debriding it. When all is said and done, his entire right buttock has to be removed. There’s no muscle. He had skin grafting done to the area and it’s as good as it’ll gets.
He carries a cushion to sit and while it provides some balance to his right side, he still experiences pain and discomfort regularly.
About six months ago, through watching a TV show, we found that there are people called anaplastologists, who make prosthetic body parts for people who have had trauma, loss of parts due to cancer, etc. Unfortunately, they are few and far between and we were fortunate to find one in Texas who is willing to make a custom mold for Rick. We’ve gone through all the insurance red tape and we’re getting closer to it becoming a reality for him.
Any little bit you are able to do to help Rick make this journey would mean the world to him!! He’s lost so much with this accident and just wants to feel “whole” again. This is the last missing piece!! Any money raised will go towards his travel and the deductible he’ll be responsible for paying.
