Laszlo and his humans need our help!

Hello friends, acquaintances, strangers, etc. to Bev and Michael!

If you are friends or acquaintances, you likely know that Bev and Michael would cross hell and back for their animals. Unfortunately, over the past year and change they have had to make that journey on behalf of the youngest member of the pack, Laszlo.

If you’re a stranger, the short-ish version goes like this:

Due to a congenital condition called luxating patella, poor Lazzie required surgery on *both* knees of his hind legs to set his patellae in place and to prevent the chronic patella dislocations this condition causes.

In July of 2022, Laszlo underwent the first surgery on his left hind leg with an expected recovery time of 8 weeks. He then underwent right knee surgery in October 2022. There were complications and the incision/surgical site required 2 additional surgical interventions due to a massive inflammatory response. The first with anticipated recovery time of 2 weeks but ended up lasting 3 months; the recovery from his second corrective resection is currently at 5 weeks (and counting). Through these additional surgical interventions, it has been determined that the original bilateral joint surgeries were not successful and will need to be performed a second time as soon as possible; then he gets to start this whole process again, hopefully with way fewer (read: ZERO) complications.

During this unexpectedly prolonged recovery process, poor Laszlo has to be kept in a dog pen wearing a cone whenever unsupervised in order to restrict his movement / prevent any further injuries and requires a human escort to hold the sling needed to support his back end when walking or going out to do his business. He has also undergone PT including laser therapy and a water treadmill. Lazzie is a very good boi and has been a tremendous sport throughout the continuous setbacks thanks to his angelic nature, but this extended limitation of activities is surely getting very old for this young pupper.

In addition to the mental/emotional toll it is taking on the entire household, these setbacks also come with quite a financial burden. Including the original surgery, they will be facing over $20,000 in vet bills when all is said and done. Bev and Michael are prepared to pay whatever it takes to give Laszlo the best life possible, but given all the financial and foster support Bev and Co. have provided to rescue organizations, shelters, friends, strangers, strays, and everything in between, over the years it’s now our turn to show them that same support.

Please consider chipping in if you can to help Laszlo and his people have a few less worries during these unexpected events!
