Overview
My name is Steven Jermaine Jones. I am the founder and editor of Late Fee Magazine. I am raising money to expand Late Fee Magazines' ability to celebrate, showcase, and support Black artists and other artists of color.
For a very long time, I have yearned for a place where the stories I wanted to tell were valued. BIPOCs have toiled in their crafts as photographers, painters, writers, and designers, but only a small fraction ever gain the attention and praise of the mainstream media. As Black artist, I became so frustrated with either rarely seeing Black artists or seeing the same handful of Black artists showcased on walls, in print, and online at companies that legitimize artists for the world and who profit off of Black culture. I realized that I should turn my frustration into action and discovered that others too were disappointed by our underrepresentation. So, I created Late Fee Magazine as an ode to artists of color. It is an online magazine platform that creates spaces for BIPOCs to be showcased, celebrated, and supported.
Why?
Last year during the pandemic, we raised enough money to publish and print our past issues, and fully support 9 artists for our fourth issue. Now, with your help, we would be able to do more to advance our goals. As with every other sector of American society, we know that while artists typically struggle, artists of color and especially Black artists, have even less opportunity to monetize their artistry.
A primary use of the funds raised here will be to pay the contributors to the magazine. With your help we will be able to fund even more artists. When you support Late Fee Magazine, you will be supporting artists of color both by raising their profile and by allowing us to compensate these talented artists for their work.
What will the money be used for?
Your donation will be used to pay contributors for our upcoming issues, create artist grants, hire editors, and to offer print issues.
Thank you for your time and donations. It takes a community.
