Help Latinx Students Hurt by Texas anti-DEI Bill

Hello!

We are LCA (Latinx Community Affairs), a student organization at UT Austin. We serve as a registered student organization that provides community resources, identity-based events, and leadership institutes for all Latinx students on campus. We are best known for planning the only bilingual Spanish and English graduation event for the 13,000 Latinx students at our university. Each year our ceremonies host 300+ graduates alongside their friends and families to celebrate this incredible milestone.

Due to the recent “Anti-DEI bill”, SB17, being enforced on campus, our organization was forced to disassociate from official campus support, funding, and supervision–such as the now-dissolved Multicultural Engagement Center. We lost all our main funding and aid from the university and were only notified a few weeks prior to the bill being instituted on January 1, 2024.

We are kindly asking for your support through any means (donations in food, event sponsorships, school materials, scholarships, grants, equipment, venues etc.) if you are able to at this time – any support at this time would help and is greatly appreciated! However, monetary donations to keep our organization going are highly preferred!

If you wish to donate funds for our graduation your support will go to cover the following things:

-Venue costs

-Printing and Decorations

-Security and insurance for the ceremony

-Last minute preparatory materials for graduates ex: bobby pins, lint rollers, tide pens, et.

-funding for commemorative items gifted to participants in future graduations

Should you wish to fund our other signature programs the funds will go to our leadership institute, summit, and community engagement events.

Please let us know if you would be able to support or sponsor our organization in any other way possible for the remainder of the 2024 school year, such as having an employer match your donation. All donations will go to help continue our service to the Latinx community here at UT. We appreciate any donation made to our GoFundMe.
