Latisha's Breast Cancer Journey

Hello Family and friends,

Yes, you read the title right! My Breast Cancer Journey! I am beginning my breast cancer story as of January 10, 2023. Before my personal story began, I walked alongside a few close friends who had been diagnosed with and survived breast cancer. However, it was the diagnosis of my big sister, Lugenia "Lulu" Chambers, in 2012 that hit closest to home. In time with a mastectomy of her left breast, removal of some lymph nodes, and chemotherapy we got the news, Lu was in remission. Even though there were no traces of cancer in her body, she was still left with the many side effects of the chemotherapy. Unfortunately, she was told those are to be expected and are common with chemotherapy.

When Lu's cancer returned in 2015 it had spread to other organs, and her prognosis wasn't good. Her doctors suggested she begin another round of chemo infusions and she agreed. They explained that the dosage would be stronger which means the risks were greater and the side effects would be much more intensive than before. During her 2nd infusion, she began to experience heart problems. They stopped the infusion and checked her into the hospital immediately. When I had arrived at her hospital bedside in Sacramento, I knew immediately, Lu wasn't coming home. My face must have shown it as well because Lu just looked at me and said in her soft voice, "Little sister, it's okay!" There was no holding back my tears. I knew we didn't have much time with her.

For the next 6 weeks, my husband and I lived in a Best Western in Sacramento and at Kaiser Hospital. Conversations with her healthcare team began to change to palliative care and transferring her home to be with family once she was stable. But Lu never stabilized. She went into ICU, and she took her last breath on October 17, 2015, before resting in the loving arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ. This time she really did beat cancer! He healed her completely and forever!

Somewhere during this difficult journey with my sister, I decided if I ever had a cancer diagnosis, I would not choose chemotherapy. I had no way of knowing then that 7 years later, I would be faced with that very same decision. I didn't even know then there were alternatives to treating cancer. Everyone I had heard of with cancer, chemotherapy and/or radiation was part of their treatment.

Now that I am faced with this decision, I sought wise counsel from a functional doctor who had been helping me and my husband naturally through nutrition and supplements with current health concerns and prevention. She referred us to Dr. Nezami, a physician located in Newport Beach, CA, who she had personally worked with 11 years prior with a family member and shed has referred other cancer patients to his practice

After doing some research and talking with Dr. Nezami, I was relieved to discover that there were effective alternative treatments for cancer. The treatments he provides are IV infusions using all-natural products in higher concentrations than we get through our diets. These natural products have been used for many years to treat diseases. Although it's not widely advertised, these same treatments are currently being used at larger cancer centers nationally and internationally as well. During the first round of treatments, I will receive IV infusions for 4 hours a day for 10 days. Afterwards, I will do labs to check the progress. Depending on the results, Dr. Nezami will order additional treatments. Then more labs to check progress again. This will continue throughout my care until there are no signs of the cancer cells.

Although the cancer treatments are less expensive than chemotherapy, the cost is greater for my husband and I because our insurance will not cover them, so we will have to pay for everything completely out-of-pocket. Thanks to my retirement account, we will be able to pay for some of the treatment, however, there are still other costs that are far beyond what we have available to us in this account. There are the costs for labs and scans that are needed. As part of the first phase of the treatment process, we will have to relocate to Newport Beach, CA for 30 days.

As servants of the Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, and Wonderful Counselor, we know we don't get to choose the ministries we are called to. We know that He equips us, calls us, and sends us!! By the two large cancerous tumors I am currently touching in my left breast as I write this, it is clear to me that He has called me and my husband to join him in His ministry of healing. We know this ministry is bigger than us like all His ministries are. We have seen the Lord’s favor and kindness on us already during our story. Our prayer and reason for establishing this GoFundMe account are to invite you all to be a part of His healing ministry with us! My husband and I know that whether you give monetary support or support us through your prayers, our Lord and Savior is our true provider as stated in Philippians 4:19! Thank you for agreeing to come alongside us in our new healing ministry as we do our small part in revealing Jesus Christ as the true Messiah to the world and letting them know, He still is performing miracles in 2023!
