Hi, my name is Sarah and in October 2022, my big brother David was told he was going to die of pancreatic cancer.
In contrast, I've spent 5 years working in childhood bereavement and helping kids who had experienced the death of their parents grieve and share their stories. I am also a writer and story teller. And my father-in-law also died of pancreatic cancer, so I am no stranger to the impact of this terrible disease.
When David found out he was terminal, he wanted to DO something with this news. Sick of sitting around and feeling passive in his life and story, we decided to document what was happening to him.
So we started recording. We have recorded his fears, his triumphs, his treatments, his good days and his bad. We have recorded thoughts about his death. Discussions with family, friends and doctors. We have followed him to his own living wake where he gave his own eulogy. To offer insight into our project, we have released the first session we have ever recorded. This is unedited and raw, but hopefully will give you a sense of who we are and the work we are doing. You can listen to it here
On November 19th, 2023 my big brother died from this disease. But the project is not over. Those left behind continue to record and look at our grief and what life is without David in it. As a trauma and bereavement worker, I know first hand the impact of sharing our stories. It reminds us we aren't alone. It humanizes the unthinkable. It connects us to each other.
We are raising money so that we can pay our award winning team, and share our story. Once we reach our goal a portion of the proceeds raised will be donated to Pancreatic Cancer Canada so that they can continue their incredible work fighting this disease. Please help us reach our goal and tell Dave's story.
