Launch Northern Journal's coverage of Alaska's mining boom

Northern Journal is an independent news organization based in Anchorage, Alaska.
In less than two years of existence, we've published news, analysis and enterprise and investigative reporting on environment and natural resources in Alaska. Now, with your help, we're seeking to expand from one full-time reporter to two.
If this fundraiser is successful, journalist Max Graham will join Northern Journal to cover mining in Alaska. It's an industry that's quickly expanding around the state, with the potential to bring jobs and money to Alaska's remote, rural communities — while also posing risks to residents' subsistence harvests of fish and game.
Northern Journal is staffed by and written for Alaskans: We understand the tension and balance between resource extraction and conservation that's long been a part of the state's history. We don't publish on a schedule, we're not tied to the day to day news cycle, and we report stories that wouldn't otherwise receive coverage. Our goal with this new position is to fill gaps in reporting on an industry that has local, regional and statewide significance.
You can read more about Northern Journal's plans for this fundraiser here. If successful, the money from this effort will cover roughly half of Max's salary for the next year, with the remainder to come from future reader and advertiser support.
