Updated on October 12th:
Our hearts are absolutely broken, Laura passed away this morning. She fought so hard but it was all too much for her body. Her family needs prayers now more than ever.
Many have offered to bring meals to the family, meal trains are in the works so we appreciate anyone that participates.
The go fund me will remain open to help the family with all of the upcoming expenses.
Thank you all for your support, we know that Laura was so thankful that so many people cared. The community support has really been amazing.

God Bless.

It was about 9 years ago when our friend Laura was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time, we were all members of the home & school committee at our kid’s school, that’s where a lot of us met. When she told us about her diagnosis we jumped in with meals, a trivia fundraiser, and did everything we could to be the team she needed. She was very strong and upbeat through her treatment; she beat cancer like we knew she would! She even hit her 5-year mark!

Laura and her husband Casey have 3 kids, 2 in high school and one in college. The kids are very active in sports, and clubs, and are thriving in school. If you’ve been to any of the games when their kids are on the court or field, I’m sure you’ve heard Laura & Casey “cheering”! They are passionate and supportive of everything their kids are a part of, they make every effort to ensure the kids have a full life.

Over the years our friend group has had so many great times together and some really hard times, but we still manage to make the most of everything we have, Laura is a big part of that! She always manages to make us laugh until our guts hurt!

Unfortunately, last year she started to have complications in other areas. This all began with a broken femur the week before Thanksgiving, November 2021. While insurance has paid claims so far, there are out of pocket expenses, lost wages for Casey over the last 18 months, and for quite sometime, twice monthly trips to Iowa City. Out of respect for her family’s privacy, I am not going into any other detail about her current diagnosis.

We are doing and will continue to do whatever we can to show our support for Laura and her family but at this point, we need to reach out to you for help so Laura can focus on healing rather than stressing about bills. Please consider donating to Laura’s GoFundMe to help cover medical costs and average day-to-day expenses. Please spread the word by sharing this campaign with family and friends. And please, even if you are unable to give keep Laura, Casey, and the kids in your prayers.

Lastly, please keep in mind Laura's only goal throughout this, other than beating cancer again, is to keep the kids’ lives as normal as possible. While they know what is going on, we do ask that you refrain from asking them questions about Laura's health.

Thank you for your support –

God Bless,

Laura & Casey’s Pals
