Those who were lucky enough to know my sister, Laura, knew her as a sweet, generous and loving soul. All of our lives, she was the carefree sister and I was the serious one. She wouldn’t worry so much about silly things such as working and paying bills. She focused her attention on raising her children and creating a loving home for her family. Over the years, the light inside Laura grew dim as she became addicted to various substances. Bad decisions were made and her life became unmanageable. Regrets and guilt crept in and she became convinced that she was a burden to our family. This, of course, is far from the truth. Laura suffered in silence largely due to her mental illness. She tried to get help on numerous occasions but the “system” failed her.
On February 10, 2023, my sister took her own life. She leaves behind 3 amazing children and a granddaughter. She had no money or savings. On top of funeral expenses, her children will have to fight a pricey legal battle to keep their family home.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my beloved sister and please consider helping our family with funeral and legal expenses.
