My name is Heather and I am fundraising to assist my brothers and I in being able to be in Springfield Mo at Mercy hospital with our mother Laura Goforth while she recovers from a massive stroke. Although she is doing so much better we still have a long road ahead of us.
It's hard to find the right words to express our gratitude and appreciation for all those who have reached out to us with kind words and prayers!
So many have asked what they could do to help us. There are three of us, my brothers Greg and Cody and myself, that will be taking turns staying at the hospital. With that being said we will all be taking turns missing work. Anything would help as we transition into caregivers. We all live in NWA and mom is two hours away from us in Springfeild MO.
On Tuesday morning august 9th our mom Laura Goforth was found on her floor unresponsive. After being rushed to the hospital, we learned that she suffered a massive stroke sometime the night before! Once we got to the hospital, we were informed that she had to be life flighted to Springfield MO where she had to undergo emergency brain surgery. Thankfully she made it through that surgery and survived the night. On Wednesday august 10th she was very alert and somewhat responsive. She was able to hold our hands, follow us with her eyes and even follow basic commands such as raising her left arm and leg, which is incredible considering the size of her stroke. She was still having a difficult time moving her right side but was improving and responsive to touch. We learned Wednesday afternoon that her brain was swelling and she developed a brain bleed due to the trauma. The drs told us she needed another emergency brain surgery in order to save her life. She was rushed back in to surgery where the drs had to preform a craniotomy to allow her brain room to swell in a safe way and not cause any further damage. Again, she survived that surgery and has been fighting so hard and is making great progress and her swelling is going down. We know that she is going to be in this hospital for at least 4-6 weeks, until they’re able to close her head back up. We also know that she’s is going to require extensive physical, speech, and occupational therapy. Her children Greg, Cody, and Heather all live in Arkansas a few hours away. They’re all rotating shifts staying in Springfield so that she will not be all alone and afraid. This is all going to be very costly as her insurance is only covering a very small fraction of the expenses and the hotel expenses for her children are starting to become overwhelming pricey. We’re looking into every option possible to assist but have not found anything concrete. We have applied for Medicaid to assist with her medical bills and are awaiting approval. We humbly ask for any donations that can be use to help offset all of the expenses for travel, lodging, and medical bills. Any suggestions, prayers, or support are greatly appreciated. Sincerely, The Goforth Family
