Hello, my name is Laura, and I'm a 33-year-old non-binary trans masc looking for support in seeking top surgery!

 

I have been on a transformative journey to embrace and explore my queerness and gender identity over the last decade. I have reached a point where I am sure of who I am and how I want to feel and look – now I just need my body to reflect that so I can unlock the gender euphoria I long for! I believe that everyone deserves to feel comfortable and joyous in their bodies, and I know that top surgery will be life-changing for me.

 

The UK is currently a hostile and depressing environment for trans and gender non-conforming people. Waiting times via the NHS Gender Identity Clinic can be up to two years simply for a first appointment to begin the process and sometimes five years or more to get surgery, which is an unbearable length of time to wait for the relief, comfort and joy that surgery provides. As a result, I would like to go private to relieve my gender dysphoria and start this next, much happier, healthier and more confident stage of my life as soon as possible.

 

I am a freelance writer-director based in London, working to create onscreen stories that centre the queer, trans, intersex people of colour community and prioritise joy over trauma. Although my career is heading in an exciting direction, I barely make enough to make ends meet, let alone save. I also have an autoimmune disease that results in low energy/fatigue and pain and swelling in my joints, making life more difficult and limiting my earning ability.

 

The surgery itself costs around £7-8000, but this does not include the two psychological evaluations required for non-binary people to be referred for surgery or any travel/accommodation/recovery costs.

 

I am all too aware that times are tough for everyone right now in this wretched economic climate, but no donation is too small, and if you don't have the means to donate, sharing and boosting are equally appreciated!
