Laura Kuisle Liver Transplant

Hi, I'm Laura, and if you don't know me or haven't heard, I was born with a rare liver disease called biliary atresia. The bile ducts in the liver become inflamed and don't drain as they are supposed to with this disease. I had surgery at two weeks old to create a new duct. I had no problems until I was in my twenties, but I started getting infections due to blockages. The first night that I got sick due to my liver was the day that Ryan proposed, and he's been here ever since.

 

 

I've had numerous infections off and on in the years following. I've lost track of the number of hospital stays and blood draws during that time. There have even been a few years with no issues, and I was lucky enough to have two children safely! But after my second was born, I was sick every couple of weeks with infections. I even had to have a PICC line placed when he was ten days old, so I could continue to feed him.

 

Currently, I'm taking antibiotics every day to keep infections at bay. My only cure is a liver transplant which will take place this May! I'm incredibly grateful to have a living donor. Words will never be enough to thank them for the gift of life they are giving me. I couldn't be more honored and thankful that this will happen! As I said before, I'm so grateful for my donor, as it's been a lot at times.

 

I will be out of work for at least three months, and Ryan is able to take a month off to help me recover. We will need help raising money to keep paying for medical costs, bills, gas, food, and other expenses while out of work. Feel free to share my story if you feel inclined.
