Help Laura ‘LC’ LeClair Fight Cancer

We are reaching out to you today to support our dear friend and colleague, Laura (LC) LeClair, who is a breast cancer survivor facing a new, unexpected battle. Laura first faced and conquered Stage II breast cancer in 2014. She remained in the clear for almost 10 years. In February of this year, she was diagnosed with a reoccurrence of her cancer, even though she only had a 6% chance of it recurring.

Since then, she has endured a 7-hour surgery to remove the tumors and rebuild her chest, which required a weeks-long recovery. She is currently through half of her radiation treatments, another step she did not expect, since most patients do not have to endure that twice. These daily treatments are exhausting and rest is so important right now.

As you may know, LC’s skeletal disease limits her mobility already, and this additional tax and strain on her body has increased her pain levels and is a continued set-back for her ongoing treatments. One challenge keeps her from working on the other, and it is difficult for her to keep her strength up and her body functioning as she would like. She has been on medical leave from her teaching position since March, and she lost multiple clients from her postpartum doula practice since she cannot attend to their needs- no lifting babies right now :(

A New Tumor

LC was planning to return to work in September, but now, a new frightening development has been added to her plate. Despite her unwavering strength and determination, she now requires additional surgery to address a new, unusual adrenal tumor, found last month during a routine scan during a radiation appointment. The endocrine specialist believes this is a spread of LC’s original cancer, and there is no way to know for sure except to remove it. This surgery will happen at Mass General in Boston on August 30th. After that, another several weeks of recovery and possible systemic treatments will sideline her through the fall.

We are rallying together to provide financial assistance to cover her ongoing expenses, which include remedying debt accrued to care for crucial needs over the past 4 months- a roof repair, emergency vet bills for her beloved cats, transportation costs to the hospital in Boston, and regular household bills for herself and her son.
