Many of you are already aware of the tragedy that has come to Laura and her family in the last months. For those that do not know, on the morning of May 14, 2022, her 8-year-old nephew was found dead in his bed – Laura and her father dealt with these initial findings. That same day, the boy’s father (Laura’s brother-in-law) was declared missing. Police investigation was involved immediately and 5 days later, his body was found also deceased.

Investigations are still ongoing.

Previous to these horrific events, Laura had temporarily travelled home to support her sister (her nephew’s mother), who has complicated chronic illness and has been in and out of hospital.

All of this has obviously taken an unimaginable toll on Laura and the members of her family.

In the wake of these events, which are still unfolding, Laura has been unable to work. She is on medical leave from work for another 6 months as she is struggling and trying to cope every day with the significant effects of trauma and compounding physical and mental health conditions.

She had work lined up for this summer/fall but has had to cancel due to the factors of complex and ambiguous grief, the ongoing investigation, and the support of others in her family who are also in distress, as well as her own therapy and medical needs for trauma and other complications.

She has been given a diagnosis of disability due to Post Traumatic Stress.

Laura is a hard-working and talented artist in her career as a musician.

She is halfway through her contract working on her latest album with her production company back in Germany, where she has been working in recent years. The album contract was put on hold due to this devastating and overwhelming situation but luckily is still held. The work is temporarily postponed until Laura can begin her work on it again.

She is trying as hard as she can to get by but needs the continued tangible support of her community to keep facing every day. She has been unable to get social assistance due to limitations on the system. Laura has tried everything.

The impacts of such devastation are not just immediate but long-lasting, and this is a call as Laura’s dear friend, to others in her life to continue to walk with her through these dark times, as you are able, and in what ways you are able.

The goal of the GoFundMe is set at $10,200 as Laura’s needs each month (including rent, storage, food, gas, therapy, etc) are set at $1,700. The weight of these circumstances is already too heavy to hold. When anxiety around meeting basic needs is constantly present, this adds additional layers of stress to an already traumatized person.
