Laura Yount Eye Can Do This!

Hi, I’m Rebecca Burgess and I’m reaching out on behalf of my beautiful daughter Laura Yount. Earlier this year Laura was diagnosed with a large choroidal melanoma in her right eye. Because the tumor was too large to radiate, the oncologist’s recommendation was enucleation - surgical removal of her eye. It was quite a shock to go from believing yourself to be healthy, to being told you have cancer, and then to losing your eye all in less than three months! Through it all, family and friends offered their prayers and support and thankfully, Laura’s healing has progressed very well! In fact, she has just received her new prosthetic eye! As she said just yesterday “I have a face again!”

Going forward, however, there is a new concern. Laura’s oncologist has told her she will remain a cancer patient and will require full body scans every three months to insure that the cancer doesn’t return and spread undetected. The reason the scans need to be done so frequently is because the cancer Laura had was so aggressive.

Almost simultaneously with learning about the necessary scans Laura found out that her insurance had been canceled. We do not understand how that can even be legal, and most likely we will be consulting an attorney. We have confidence that everything can be resolved, but for the near future there is a financial crunch.

There were several generous gifts that came close to covering the cost of Laura’s new prosthetic eye and made it possible to go ahead and have it made. She’s waiting for appointments for the scans and I’m setting up this gofundme page in order to help her with immediate medical bills until the insurance situation can be resolved.
