Just two days before the 4th of July, our family received devastating, terrifying news: our mom needs a heart transplant as soon as possible. Although she’s had long-term cardiac complications, it came as a shock to us that she needs a transplant immediately due to her rapidly declining heart function.
With COVID, it’s not only a big risk for our mom to have the transplant, but it also prevents us from hosting a fundraiser. Because of this and the outpouring support we’ve already received from friends and family asking, “How can I help?” My sister and I have set a goal of $10,000 to raise for our parents. In addition to medical costs, this funding will help with long-term transplant medications as well as lodging, meals, and travel during the 4-7 month stay at Mayo Clinic (Rochester) for both our mom and our dad.
Although this was extremely scary & unexpected news, please don’t misunderstand that we feel truly grateful and eternally blessed for many things. We are thankful:
***Most importantly, that our mom is eligible for a heart. Because of this, we are able to spend 20+ more years with her.
***That someone who tragically lost their life is able to give more to our mom.
***To have family and friends that support our mom through one of the (if not THE) scariest seasons of her life.
***For the incredibly talented doctors at Mayo Clinic who have taken care of our mom and who we are confident will make her healthier.
***For our unwavering faith that we are clinging to during this time of uncertainty - for we know that God is in complete control.
In addition to reaching this financial goal, we are asking that you say a prayer for our mom every time you read a book (her favorite career), drink a glass of wine (thanks dad!), and share memories/spend time with family (her whole world). Please also consider becoming an organ donor if you are not already - it is because someone said yes that this is even possible. If you have any questions or simply want to reach out, please do! My sister and I will continue to update everyone on her progress through a CaringBridge page and provide additional ways to support our mom throughout the next few months, such as sending cards and preparing meals. We are so lucky to have all of you in our lives!
