Laura's Medical Expenses

Laura was diagnosed with arthritis in her knees many years ago. The cartilage was wearing out as the arthritis continued to build up. This culminated in her right femur breaking just above the knee in October 2022. The Doctor said this was a rare incident and he had only heard this happen twice in his career. This break rendered her unemployed immediately as the recovery process began. Discussion began for her to heal and plans to replace her knee commenced. It was then she was informed that both knees needed to be replaced as the left knee was in a very bad condition as well. She had successful surgery on the right knee in April and recovered as a “model” patient according to the Home Health professionals. In July 2023, she had the left knee replaced. It did not go as well. Although she is recovering well, she is experiencing a lot more pain with this one. While our insurance covered a lot of the initial surgery, the high deductible insurance plan leaves us with out-of-pocket expenses after two surgeries that is an overload on a one income budget. She applied for Disability almost immediately when this accident happened. As you may be aware, the speed of processing the claim is not ideal. She has still not received any decision and will attend an exam in August with an arranged Doctor as part of the process. There is no guarantee this will be approved, so we decided to start this fundraiser to help us cover the medical and monthly living expenses that have accumulated while she has been off work. We have made it to this point by utilizing our resources, including selling one vehicle, but now we need to reach out and ask for assistance. Please consider helping in whatever way you can, whether donating or just sharing this request to your friends, family, and co-workers, whomever you can on your social media accounts or emails.
