Kilimanjaro Technology Foundation
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Laurel Werner and I recently climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro (Feb 16, 2015) with a lot of amazing people. I fell in love with Tanzania and I am returning in May 2015 as a vonlunteer teacher!
I will be teaching 8-9 year olds in Moshi, Tanzania. Moshi is at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
The schools volunteers at are very basic schools. These children are often from very poor families that cannot afford to send their children to private schools. The schools have limited resources and usually have desks/benches for the kids in the room (concrete floors and walls usually) and the majority do have a chalkboard. There are few other resources at these schools and this fund will allow us to buy a few technology items and school supplies, lesson planning books. etc. The typical classroom size can vary greatly. In general the children are split up by age level and the class size can vary from around 10 or 12 to 20 or 25 students.
These students are voluntarily in school. MANY children in Tanzania are forced to work from a very young age to help their families financially or do not have this option at all. The children that Tanzania Volunteers work with are so joyful and lovely and understand that they are fortunate to be in school and to have structure and hope.
I am asking for donations for school supplies and the kids, and every dollar raised will fund the school, buy school supplies, and support the children. Zero dollars will go to me or for any personal expenses. So, thank you in advance, every dollar is appreciated and will go a long ways!!Visit our website!
