Lauren Barker Relief Fund
On April 10, 2020 our beautiful friend Lauren Barker accidentally fell 400ft down a canyon in Big Sur. Thankfully, she survived the fall and she was located and she was helicopter lifted to a level 2 trauma unit.
She sustained several injuries including lacerations, broken bones in both her arms, a dislocated elbow and a skull fracture.
Thankfully, her spine, legs, hips, ribs and ankles were relatively uninjured.
Of course the most concerning injury is the skull fracture. When she was admitted to the hospital she was a 13-12 on the Glasgow Coma Scale and several days later was at a 14 (this is good as 15 is the best possible score).
She is currently becoming more and more clear, FaceTiming with her parents and talking with a few friends on the phone. I got to talk to her for the first time on May 1st and she was happy when I told her so many of her friends were missing her, loving her and wishing for a speedy recovery.
I also asked her if she wanted to share anything with her friends and she said, "I'm Coming...Sooner or Later, Better Watch Out!" I am amazed at her strength, humor and speed of recovery.
Lauren Barker is my best friend (we have known each other since Kindergarten!) and I know the joy she brings to my life is what she brings to everyone she crosses paths with. Her adventure, brilliance, joyfulness and caring heart is why we all love her so much.
Luckily, most of her medical bills are covered by her insurance but it is still unclear what costs her road to recovery might entail. After several conversations with Nathan and getting the go ahead from her parents, we are launching this GoFundMe to be directly gifted to Lauren for her to utilize at her discretion. Perhaps it will go toward making her precious van even more sweet, maybe a trip to Baja when all is clear or something else.
What I know is that there are many of us who love Lauren Barker and if you can, let's show our love in the form of financial support.
We are starting with a goal of $20,000 and will adjust as her path to recovery gets more clear. No donation is too small, even just $5 or $10 will be appreciated!
