Lauren, Derrick & family need help!

We need you and your hearts & souls to help this family. Let me share my story and how I grew to love gobs!

I placed an ad on FB marketplace at the height of Covid donating a piece a furniture. I asked that the person asking for the donation share their story with me and why THEY needed it. A sweet son and daughter-in-law reached out first to me sharing that they were moving their ailing mom to Charlotte due to Covid and needed items to furnish her small apartment. I said yes right away! Then the 2nd family reached out to me. And our lives changed forever.

When the 2nd family reached out I had to tell them I already committed to someone else but their story moved me so much that I wanted to help them. Here was the gist of the story from Lauren, the step-mom.

"My 6-year-old step son just moved in with his father and me. We are trying to furnish his bedroom to give him a home to call his own with us. We are good people trying to make a difference in his life and for ourselves."

Lauren, Derrick and little Derrick and my family have become so close over these 3 years. They are the most humble and kind people I know from not the best up bringing and backgrounds. But they chose to see the good every single day in life and people. They chose to believe the power of God and what he brings into our lives right at the perfect time. They live in a home in an area of Charlotte that doesn't give them the life they truly deserve. Little Derrick cannot play outside or ride a bike. They cannot sit and enjoy a cold glass of ice tea on their front porch or in their backyard. The ceiling in their bedroom has a gapping hole which runs their gas bill up (They owe over $1100 to the gas company) which the landlord never fixes.

They do the best that they know how trying to work odd jobs, remote/computer work while trying to take care of their son with challenges with his behavior and school. Dad Derrick has back problems that cause him to be on disability but does all he can to work remote/computer jobs to provide. Lauren cleans homes and offices when she can find time between taking care of the boys.

I told them I'd try and raise some money for their gas bill but what I'd really love to do is try to raise even more to help them find a new and safe place to live! We'd love to pay their $1100 gas bill, put them in a safe home or apartment provide them with the downpayment or deposit, and any of their other financial needs.

They show up for me and my daughter for birthdays, and holidays and to help the homeless and whenever they can. Now we want to help them BIGGER than we ever have.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! We know this community brings love, kindness, and God's blessings all day long.
