Lauren Knickerbocker was a beloved friend, colleague, mother, daughter, sibling, partner, and provider of amazing care to countless people. Prior to graduate school at Stony Brook University, Lauren worked as a case worker for Florida’s child welfare program, helping families impacted by neglect and abuse. Lauren joined the Child Study Center in 2011, first to serve a two-year postdoctoral fellowship which combined work in the Selective Mutism program and our research in organizational skills, and then as faculty.
The contributions that Lauren provided to others through our department were many. She expanded the Selective Mutism Program and co-led the creation and overseeing of the Early Childhood treatment and training program. Through the Early Childhood Program, Lauren initiated a systematic support program in the Neonatal Intensive Care unit and its follow-up programs at Tisch Hospital. Lauren also added to undergraduate education. She created the course Looking Back on Growing Up for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Studies (CAMS) undergraduate minor, a very popular offering that touched the lives of over 1000 NYU students.
Lauren's contributions to the families she worked with, to our department, and to our larger society will remain with all of us. This GoFundMe is to benefit Lauren's family, particularly the ongoing care and education of her children. Lauren gave everything she could for the people she helped and whatever you can give for her kids will be very appreciated.
