Lauren Marucot's Stroke Recovery Journey

Donation protected
When Lauren and Jeremy vowed to stick together “for better or worse” in June, they couldn’t have imagined “worse” would happen so soon.

Two months after their wedding, Lauren’s dad passed away from cancer. Then, only weeks later, Lauren woke up on a Sunday morning unable to speak, with the right side of her body immobilized.

She’d had a severe stroke - at 36 years old (something only 1 in 10,000 Canadians under 64 experience).

Fortunately, Jeremy was home and sprang into action. Within minutes, Lauren was rushed to the hospital for an emergency surgery that saved her life. The surgeon remarked her stroke was "as bad as it gets."

Since Lauren’s capacity to talk, read, and write is compromised, she won’t be able to work for some time. Affording long-term medical care and everyday expenses on one income will be a challenge—especially during a record-breaking inflation.

But YOU can make sure Lauren and Jeremy have the support they need in the wake of such a life-changing event. Your gift will help cover the costs of:

  • Living expenses, so Lauren and Jeremy can stay in their home and keep their car
  • Long-term rehabilitation, so Lauren can relearn skills, gain independence, and improve her quality of life
  • Transportation to and from the hospital

We know the road ahead is neither short nor easy, because we've walked it with Lauren before. Last September, she had a mild stroke, yet it still took more than a year for her to start feeling fully herself again.

Although plenty of uncertainty remains, we know two things for sure:

(1) Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. Lauren and Jeremy's lifestyles will change significantly, and for an indefinite period of time.

(2) Lauren's resilience is a formidable force. We are in awe of her courage, determination, and strength, which will help fuel her recovery.

Will you chip in to help ease this financial burden and let Lauren and Jeremy know they aren’t alone? Any amount you can give will make a world of difference to the newlyweds and their families.

Thank you for your compassion!
