https://funds.gofundme.com/dashboard/l89gv8/customize/description In January of 2008 Laurie found a lump in her breast, being concerned she went to her doctor only to find out that it was breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy done to remove the cancerous cyst and underwent Chemotherapy and radiation. This took care of the cancer. So we all thought...
Two years later Laurie found a lump under her arm and back to the doctor she went. There was a biopsy done on the lump which turned out to be a cancerous tumor, they removed it. Unfortunately this time it had come back in her lymph nodes and she was diagnosed with stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer.. For those of who who don't know, Stage 4 breast cancer is treatable yet not cureable. She underwent chemotherapy for the cancer, lost all of her beautiful long hair, but most importantly the therapy did what it was supposed to do and her cancer went into a (non active) stage.
Eighteen months later after having her regular PET scan the cancer once again reared its ugly self, this time in her spine which meant Chemotherapy yet again. She was good for another twelve months before spots showed in her chest cavity, Chemotherapy again, it seemed to clear the cancer in this area. Eight months after being off of the therapy another PET scan showed spots in her liver and lungs this time back on Chemotherapy to buy more time. After four weeks on this chemotherapy her cancer counts kept going up meaning the chemotherapy is not working. Cancer has overtaken seventy percent of her liver so she has been on a very strong Chemotherapy drug to which it has helped keep the cancer from spreading more in that organ thus far. Her latest PET Scan showed the cancer has spread throughout all of her bones and she has four tumors on her brain. She is currently going through radiation for these tumors.
Her Doctor has told her at some point the Chemotherapy will stop working. With a brave face like Laurie has always done, she asked him "how much time do I have" to that he replied "6 months, 9 months, 1 year". It was one of the hardest things I have had to see my friend be told. It has been very hard for Laurie and her family trying to prepare for something that you never can totally prepare yourself for.
Laurie has fought the battle of Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer for over five years now. Her time is limited and she is trying to make as many memories as she possibly can. She has had her ups and downs throughout this entire battle and is one very strong, courageous and brave beautiful person. If there is an angel to earn her wings Laurie is that Angel. Laurie has said many times that she is not afraid of death, it is leaving behind the ones she loves, that makes her so sad.
There is no Life Insurance to cover the final expenses that are incurred when she does earn her wings. Laurie is a brave, inspirational soul loved by many and we are asking for your help to ease the finacial burden somewhat on her family.
