Struggling After Grave Illnesses
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Laurie Hays Hunt and thank you for reading my GoFundMe request. I am a single mother of two, my oldest is a senior in college and my youngest is a senior in high school. I am a home health pediatric nurse in fragile infant critical care. I started with my company in April 2016 while also working in hospice over the last four years. My vent patient developed a cold and was hospitalized, the nurses and everyone in the house also contracted the cold. Unfortunately, I again developed Viral Cardiomyopathy affecting my heart’s left ventricle, reducing it to an ejection fraction (EF) of 20 percent. The EF is the total function of the pumping action of the heart. For a brief history back in 2010, I developed Congestive Heart Failure and Global Viral Cardiomyopathy that affected both the right and left sides of my heart; my EF was 35 percent. Over the next four years, I battled back to an EF of 65 percent. Currently, I have a lifting weight limit of fifty pounds, eliminating my hospice job and I have been out of work since being diagnosed in June 2016. In July I developed complications from static blood in my heart creating a large, mobile clot in my left ventricle that has now resolved. In September I hemorrhaged, requiring two surgical procedures to stop and correct it. The ECHO in October showed that my EF had only risen to 25 percent after three months. In November, I had an (AICD) pacemaker/defibrillator surgically implanted in my heart, to stop any fatal heart rhythms. I have been out of work since June 2016, as my heart could not handle the required high dosages of medications, and multiple changes to the dosages and different medication were utilized frequently to stabilize me.
I am the sole provider for my family and being out of work has been extremely difficult. My family has done so much for me, however, with all of the complications that I have had, it has strained their ability to help me further, and I am so afraid that I will lose our housing and vehicle. I am turning to GoFundMe for help with $20,000. This amount covers an emergent $6,500, which is two months of back rent in October and November which the manager has stated $900 is due prior to Friday, Nov 17, 2016, and the remaining balance of $1075 is due prior the end of November. I am not released to go back to work until sometime in January. Therefore, I am also requesting rent of $995 for the month of December in addition to back car payments of $1,500 since becoming ill; as I have only been meeting the minimum to stay afloat. Due to my son turning 18, I no longer qualify for emergent insurance, leaving me to search for alternatives for the mounting medical bills, medications, medical treatments and as many of my friends know, a couple of unforeseen complications; while waiting on the social security disability until my health improves. Currently, I have past due medical bills and medication that I will need assistance with.
The funds would bring such relief to the stress that I am feeling like my back is against a wall, allowing my EF to hopefully improve to be able to work for some length of a shift. This assistance will have a long term positive effect on me and my family while I, with great hope, am cleared to return to work in January.
I thank you in advance for considering my request. It is a fine thing that there are good people that help others in times of serious need. Blessings and Peace be with you.
