Lauries campaign for comfort care
Donation protected
As much as we all wish we could perpetually avoid the difficult topic of death, our family finds itself confronted with the truth that loved ones possess mortality. I struggle to write this story for many reasons, but a large portion of this challenge is that putting it to words makes me feel like I'm publishing it into reality.
My name is Alex Gateman, I'm joined by my siblings Tyler, Todd, and Madisen. As many of you know, our mom, Laurie Kimmel, has bravely and fiercely gone toe to toe with Cancer for the last 7 years. As this bout comes to an end, it is time to enjoy, deeply, the connection of friends and family.
As we transition into this phase, our intention is to create the most comfortable environment possible for our mom, as well as friends and family. We want family to be family, friends to be friends, and children to be children through these difficult times. In order to do this, we have hired full time private care to manage the daily tasks required by the ever-changing needs associated with the advanced nature of her cancer.
The cost of this full-time care is over $600 a day; for those of you who know us, this is not an easy thing for us to ask, but we are reaching out to you, our community and extended network of friends/family, to help us ensure that our mom is well taken care of.
Full-time care started on Tuesday, May 5th. We are scheduling time to visit for friends and family through a google calendar. We also created a mealtrain to help make the lives of our family and care providers easier through this process.
