Lauring De La Cruz Funeral and Memorial
Donation protected
Our Auntie Lauring De La Cruz , mother of the late Leo De La Cruz and wife of the late Leodegario De La Cruz departed this world at the age of 100 early Sunday morning on June 21st, 2020 in Los Angeles, California. She is remembered by her one and only surviving sister, Inday and many nieces and nephews. She always said her secret to long life was to eat mostly veggies and small fish (specifically not big fish) and having lived a full life of a century, it seems her diet certainly helped!
Some may remember her as a home economics teacher at Banga, Aklan where the she grew up with her sisters and brothers and where she also survived World War II. During WW2, her father saved many lives (American, Filipino and Japanese) and was rewarded with a statue of Jesus resurrected which was named "The Resurrection." This statue played a large part in a yearly procession during Holy Week in Banga, Aklan. The Resurrection was very important to Tita Lauring and it was her dream to preserve the tradition of taking care of and preparing The Resurrection for the parade.
Or perhaps she is remembered as one of the Guevara matriarchs here in Los Angeles where she made a home which she, along with her husband and son, graciously welcomed and generously provided an interim home to many relatives who emigrated from the Philippines.
To some, she is also remembered as a feminist who firmly believed in women living freely and perusing a life where women didn’t feel inclined to be married and have kids by society which is something she has passed on to her grand-nieces as she stressed to them the importance of education and to pursue it before even thinking about being in a relationship at all. This also reflected in her own practices like marrying late and having an education.
We, her nieces and nephews have created this fundraiser to cover the expenses of her funeral. Any extra amount raised will go towards the purchasing of flowers donated in memory of Auntie Lauring for the specific use of decorating The Resurrection for preparation of the yearly town Holy Week parade.
The Prayer Service will be held at Holy Cross Mortuary Chapel this Friday July 10th, 2020 at 12 pm. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we regrettably must keep her memorial service limited to 10 people to keep everyone safe. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this time.
