Laura’s go fund me update on 11/26/23 since accident:

Next week will be 5 Months since my Brother Jose and his family were hit by a drunk driver, changing drastically their life

Specifically Laura who was the most affected after being a few months in an induced coma.

Per the last tomography doctors see challenging the outcome of her progress (they see hard for her to recover the mobility of the left side of her face and arm) yet they give us hope as a family.

Laura has shown progress she can laugh, cried, move her arms and eyes every time she sees family, every time this happened we see on her the miracle of life

In terms of expenses , all the surgeries that Laura had over her recovery reach over 100k.

Although we are extremely thankful for the support we received, the daily expenses have Jose and his family overwhelmed as, Jose is still dealing with a broken leg and haven’t been able to reincorporate to work 100%, although he is doing a huge effort to come back to the work force is challenging as he is also in pain and on recovery therapy.

The daily expenses include nurses, language therapy, motor skill therapy, visual therapy, plus medical supplies.

Jose and Yani (his wife) have learn many ways to save money and use it more efectely towards this recovery process but there are some expenses impossible to cover for them.

La próxima semana se cumplirán 5 meses desde que mi hermano José y su familia fueron atropellados por un conductor ebrio, cambiando drásticamente su vida.

En concreto Laura que fue la más afectada tras estar unos meses internada en un coma inducido.

Según las últimas tomografías los médicos ven desafiante el resultado de su evolución (ven difícil que recupere la movilidad del lado izquierdo de la cara y brazo) pero nos dan esperanza como familia.

Laura ha mostrado avances, puede reír, llorar, mover los brazos y los ojos cada vez que ve a su familia, cada vez que esto sucede vemos en ella el milagro de la vida.

En términos de gastos, todas las cirugías que tuvo Laura durante su recuperación superan los 100 mil dólares.

Aunque estamos sumamente agradecidos por el apoyo recibido, los gastos diarios tienen a José y su familia abrumados ya que José aún está lidiando con una pierna rota y no ha podido reincorporarse al trabajo al 100%, aunque está haciendo un esfuerzo enorme. Volver a la fuerza laboral es un desafío ya que también sufre dolores y está en terapia de recuperación.

She arrived in a very dedicated and critical condition at the Pediatric Hospital in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Laura suffered a skull fracture and brain mass exposure, so she had emergency surgery last night.

Laura was strong enough to survive the surgery, but she is still fighting for her life. Her doctor is currently waiting for the swelling to come down to be able to move forward with the following steps, which we don't know yet how that looks like as the forecast/prediction of the outcome is very reserved, and they ask us to wait.

We are all praying for a miracle for our dear Laura to start evolving and progress with medical help, and begging God for mercy and help for Laura and her family to heal and recover successfully without irreversible sequels after this unfortunate tragedy caused by a drunk driver.

This accident occurred in Venezuela. In a country where medical hospitals don't have the capacity, equipment, and medical supplies to care for a patient with dignity and proper conditions and where not all people can't afford insurance, this is also the case. None of them have insurance, and due to the urgency and timing of this emergency, we ended up in a private clinic where prices are also overwhelmingly high.

For additional context about this Family, Jose Rafael Colmenares Di Cicco is a family man of 46 years old born and raised in El Tocuyo, Lara, Venezuela, Son of the late military Vincencio Colmenares Peraza, well known in town for our family history and being one of the main sources of work in the past; the Colmenares were the first owners of the sugar factory El Central Tocuyo, landowners in the past and were one of biggest prouctors of sugar cane in the market. Jose Rafael currently is well know in Lara state for his passion about horses and cattle raisingas and the award winner of several Team Peanning competitions

Ninguno de ellos tiene seguro, y debido a la urgencia y el momento de esta emergencia, terminamos en una clínica privada donde los precios también son abrumadoramente altos.
