Law for Paws Spring Fest

Donation protected
Background:
In December 2015, Law for Paws was established by employee-based volunteers of the Port Barre Police Department in Port Barre, Louisiana. Our story began with a Santa Paws event where a local Parish shelter posted their current needs on Facebook and we wanted to help fulfill those needs, but our passion to help didn't stop there - Law for Paws was born, and we’ve been hitting the ground running ever since.
How we help:
• Facilitate and coordinate rescues for animals (primarily dogs), including transportation both locally and regionally.
o Vetting and screening for rescue sponsorships.
o Assistance is provided to all dog breeds because all are worthy of a furever home.
• Coordinate with a local veterinarian to ensure much-needed veterinary care is provided.
o Donations are made directly to the veterinary facility.
• Provide day-to-day care for the animals on site, through employee-based volunteers and Parish inmates.
o The dogs have currently housed in our kennel runs outside.
• Organize and campaign for current necessities (food, toys, towels, kennels, etc).
What’s next and how you can help:
Our kennel runs are not equipped to handle the harsh and ever-changing weather we have in Louisiana, as they are all outdoors and not weather protected. This small town desperately needs an updated facility to continue to provide these resources and opportunities. The shelter we are collecting funds to build would be a shipping container that has been modified to our specific needs (including heating and much-needed AC in the kennel runs). As such, we are seeking donations and asking for your help to take Law for Paws even further and make our dreams a reality

Photos of our story:

Ollie was seized from a cruelty case.
Ollie went to a rescue and trained to be a service dog for a veteran!

Willow was found in terrible condition.
Willow made an amazing transformation!

Josie was found tied to a gas meter, abandoned.
Josie is now at her amazing rescue in PA. Josie went on to be adopted by a loving family.
