my Summer Program in Korea (Hanyang University)
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Lawrence, a Computer Science major at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, originally from Los Angeles, California. During my freshman year, I started taking Korean and became infatuated with the language and culture. My Korean language professor invited me to participate in a prestigious summer program at a top university in Seoul, South Korea. So, I applied... and I've been accepted! So, with your help, I'll be attending Hanyang University 's summer program, where I hope to continue studying the language, experience the country, and have fun with my peers.
I will be taking a Korean III language course, a digital design course, and hopefully a course on Korean cinema, taekwondo, and/or the computer analysis of large data pools. Off-campus, I want to take a Korean cooking class and go sightseeing around Seoul and Korea in general whenever possible. This will be my first time outside of the United States, and I plan to make it memorable.
Now, all I need to do is earn some money and/or raise the funds. My commitments and studies at Cornell leave me little time to earn that kind of money. In my father’s words: “Lawrence, I don't think you have enough time before your trip to master the computer programming skills necessary for creating a cryptocurrency mining farm business.” So... I thought it would be a great idea to try to reach family and friends and friends of friends of friends through GoFundMe.
My mother's only requirements for my summer study abroad trip were - in her words: “Requirement #1 is that I do not get to visit North Korea on this trip! and Requirement #2 is that, while in Korea, I do not get to participate in any Squid Games!” So, I'm all in! And very excited about my first experience of traveling overseas and learning.
Thank you to each of you who are considering making a donation. No amount is too little. Need I say, no amount is too big. The budget includes all airfares, lodging (campus), university fees (where I was already granted an approx. $1000 scholarship from them), and generous portions of Korean BBQ and kimchi. I promise to make this a once-in-a-lifetime experience, live it up, and enjoy it to the fullest... before heading back to Cornell to start my Sophomore Year.
PS. For funders who donate in the triple digits, I will be sending you a weekly email blog with photos and short videos. For the top twenty funders, I will be sending you the email blogs, and a Hanyang University tee shirt in your requested size. And for the top funder, you get all of what's included above plus a special gift from Korea (chosen by me) and a Korean multi-course dinner cooked by ME from my Seoul cooking school course (the dinner party will need to be scheduled during my break from my school, preferably). And, if you wish, I will speak Korean with you during the dinner party (please note: no need to reply in Korean) and teach you any phrases that you’d like to learn.
정말 감사합니다. Thank you so much!
