Lawson Family Urgent Housing Crisis
Donation protected
The Lawson Family is facing a housing crisis. Heather, a single, widowed mother of three, works as a therapist providing mental health and social services. She passionately advocates for those with fewer privileges, regularly donating her services to those in need. Having carried a heavy load for many years in raising her three children entirely on her own, she and her kids need support now.
The family home and all of its contents have been contaminated with mold leaving her three kids ages 17, 14 and 11, dog and cats displaced. A professional service attempted to address the mold issue, but unfortunately, their efforts exacerbated the situation, spreading mold spores throughout the house. The Lawsons have been left with no choice but to vacate their home and sell it “as is” as the mold remediation process and subsequent reconstruction required far exceeds what they can afford; their homeowner’s insurance policy does not cover the extensive damages due to a mold exclusion. Heather has used up all of her available funds trying to deal with the mold. She will recover little to no equity from selling their home, leaving her without the financial resources to replace their contaminated belongings and to secure housing for her family. The Lawsons are currently staying in temporary housing which they must vacate by January 10th.
In order to help The Lawson Family, we are hoping to provide her with the following:
Moving Costs
Securing housing is imperative, and the associated moving costs, which include first, last, and security deposits, pose a considerable financial burden. Additionally, being self-employed, Heather may face challenges in securing a new rental property, as landlords often demand more upfront payments.
Extra Support in Inflated Housing Market
With the current inflated housing market, Heather anticipates that finding a home to rent will be considerably more expensive on a monthly basis than her current mortgage. So, the funds raised may be used to supplement her living expenses for the first year.
Replacement of Unsalvageable Furniture
Most of the family's furniture, including mattresses, is no longer salvageable due to the mold contamination. Your support will help Heather replace essential household items to provide a stable and comfortable environment for her and her kids.
