Lawson's Hip Surgery
Donation protected
As Grandma of our little Lawson Robert, I am reaching out to you for Blessings. Lawson's hip journey began in 2020 at the time we found out both of Lawson's hips were dislocated. Lawson has been placed in multiple harnesses/braces and has had a closed reduction surgery which was all unsuccessful. ** Hip dysplasia is a condition where the "ball and socket" joint of the hip does not properly form in babies and young children. It's sometimes called congenital dislocation of the hip, or hip dysplasia. The hip joint attaches the thigh bone (femur) to the pelvis. Prior to Lawson's second surgery, he was diagnosed with Congenital Neutropenia. This is a blood disorder that causes Lawson to not be able to produce white blood cells. Infections of any kind can be life-threatening. Therefore, he receives injections of a very expensive drug twice weekly and will, most likely, have to continue to receive them for the rest of his life.
We have experienced multiple disappointments with doctors not being available through the Shriner's Hospital and in Fargo, ND. Covid also caused delays in his surgeries. Thankfully, they have finally been successful in finding doctors in Sioux Falls, SD who are able to do his Bilateral Acetabular osteotomy surgery on February 14th. ** An open reduction with femoral osteotomy. Osteotomy means that the bone is divided and shifted to a better alignment. Osteotomy on the socket side of the hip is called “acetabular osteotomy”. This a major surgery that involves cutting the bones and repositioning them with screws which will need to be removed down the road.
My daughter, Lindsey, and her husband Tim have made the initial 5-hour trip to Sioux Falls for the 1st doctor's visit. The next visit will be for the surgery(s). It will depend on how Lawson does during surgery whether or not he will have 1 or 2 surgeries. He will remain in the hospital for at least a week. We won't know until they take him in for surgery. Therefore, mom and dad will be missing at least a week of work. Of course, since it is a new year, all of his deductibles and out of pockets expenses will need to be met again. Plus the expenses of hotel and meals for the week. Any kind of donation is gratefully accepted. We cannot thank you enough for your Prayers and kindness. Our prayer is that after Lawson recovers from his surgery and 6 weeks in a half-body cast, he will be running around like nothing happened! Blessing to you and your family.
We will keep you updated on his surgery and recovery!
