Political Prisoner, David Ballard is currently incarcerated for allegedly threatening an officer on social media, and when in a moment of confrontation the officer put his hand in the door and was injured. No valid evidence was founded for the threat of an officer charge and most of their information was social media similar to what we see every day. His posts align with the freedom of speech as an activist and yet he is serving a minimum sentence of 5 years in prison.
David Ballard was not a member of Black Lives Matter Charleston however, he was instrumental in much of the groundwork that was done here in 2015 and 2016. He also was a lead organizer in other black movements on local and national levels.
I see daily the posts of others that could qualify privileged individuals for the same punishment yet at this moment I only ask that attention and support surround this young man and father to free him from incarceration.
He has been in the South Carolina Department of Corrections for 2 and a half years and has faced retribution inside every step of the way. In this moment of COVID-19, the urgency to get him released is even more pressing than ever.
I would not be doing my work if I didn't speak up and bring attention to this very real problem. This is a direct retaliation of the attack of this country and state on black thought and freedom. We need law support to bring him home. A Parole Attorney has been found and the fee is $2,750.

Shango is a father, brother, activist, and friend and doesn't deserve the torture of SCDC while so many others walk free in their privilege. Parole is coming up early February 23, 2020.
