Lay Luis to Rest After His Brave Fight

Donation protected

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our beloved family member, Luis Gerardo Villapudua, who passed away on November 24th, 2024, after a long and painful fight against brain cancer. He was only 29 years old. We remember Luis as a funny, kind, generous, compassionate, and family-oriented person who had an insatiable desire to learn new things. Anyone who knew Luis knows of his lifelong love for Pokemon. He was a seeker of knowledge and approached life with a curiosity and passion that could light up a room. His laugh was contagious and undeniably mischievious at times, due to his playful nature. He was a lover of comedy, such as that of Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias, the band Green Day, video games, movies, anime, and his beloved dog, Chico, which he leaves behind as his most cherished companion.
Luis had undergone a year of chemotherapy after being re-diagnosed with brain tumors in August of 2023. He was a very optimistic soul who faced his diagnosis with an unwavering braveness that inspired us all. Upon completion of a full year's treatment, doctors discovered an aggressive type of cancer (high-grade gliomas) that had spread to parts of his brain that were deemed inoperable and resistant to treatment. He was also dealing with many other medical complications from his initial childhood cancer diagnosis (medulloblastoma) at only 6 years old. His initial battle with cancer left him unable to walk for the remainder of his life. Luis endured various surgical procedures in an effort to prolong his life, like the removal of a stomach cyst in October of 2024. This was caused by the encapsulation of fluid from his cerebrospinal-shunt device, which had been in place for 23 years. Meanwhile, his cancer was advancing rapidly before our eyes taking everything he had left, including his ability to speak, swallow, move, and ultimately, breathe on his own. His devoted mother, Maria, was his full-time caretaker throughout his entire life. From attending countless doctor visits to advocating for his needs until the very end, she stood beside him. His family has consented for doctors to conduct genetic research to further understand this cruel disease in hopes of a future cure.
Thank you for taking the time to learn of Luis's journey. Now, we are humbly asking our friends, family, and anyone who finds his story impactful for any contribution to help us lay our loved one to rest. Thank you.

Gracias.
