Lea Loveheart : We've got this!

We've got this, Lea Loveheart.
At six months pregnant, our dear friend Lea Loveheart was diagnosed with a mostly inoperable brain tumour.
This crowdfunding campaign has been created by a group of Lea's loved ones as a way to support and return some of the love and tireless dedication Lea has given to the community over the last two decades. Lea has dedicated her life to the community, passionately working with vulnerable and marginalised people in lots of creative, unique and more often than not magical ways! She is loved by so many for her deeply loving, quirky, and awesome ways.
Lea’s passion to assist and empower through creativity has led to a long and successful career working in the development, disability and mental health sectors in Australia and internationally. Lea wears her heart on her sleeve in everything she does, be it devising and facilitating an arts festival for children living in Filipino dumpsite communities, creating wacky and wild children's play spaces, or developing inclusive arts programs.
Her work across Melbourne in the inclusive arts sector has been prolific: she’s created a community arts space, run countless workshops and educational exhibitions and produced many other celebrations of difference.
Earlier this year, tragedy struck for Lea and her young family. In Lea's own words:
"After returning home from setting up a Festival Kids Space in early 2019, I was diagnosed with a meningioma (a fancy word for a type of brain tumor) of the cavernous sinus. I had been baffling doctors for several months of strange and painful symptoms which had been repeatedly misdiagnosed as sinusitis. It was only when I started to see double in my suddenly super bung right eye that doctors collated the abnormalities. At the time I was six months pregnant and already had a two year old daughter.
Under careful medical supervision, holistic wellness support and an incredible community of family and friends, I was able to birth Eva three months later, almost at full term. Thankfully, baby Eva is a wonderful, healthy, adorable baby who has (thus far) not been adversely affected by the brain tumor symptoms and awful pain medications. In so many ways I feel we are so blessed! Looking at her sweet little face is the most effective of all the pain killers. But sadly it hasn't been enough to stave off the scary and painful brain tumor symptoms, including: double vision, facial paralysis, chronic and debilitating headaches, nausea and unmentionable digestive issues associated with pain medications, perforated ear drums, changes in personality and memory loss.
The tumor has permanently altered many things but I fear to lose everything without treatment. As it stands, my Neuro/ ENT / radio-ontology team wish to perform open head surgery followed by radiation at the start of 2020. Though life saving, the procedures are also risky. Possible side effects include blindness, stroke, thrombosis, or death.
I can tell you that the past year has rightfully been the most surreal, confronting, unpredictable and downright scary time of my life. What has been so humbling and beautiful had been the epic love, kindness and support we have received. This has allowed us to keep hope alive during this immense time of change.
Honestly, I am terrified at what the future holds for my little family, but I am so bolstered by my dear friends and their commitment to helping us. From the bottom of my sparkly heart I thank you all <3”
And now it's our turn to give back to dear Lea Loveheart! We, Lea's friends and family, have created this campaign in order to support Lea and her family. Along with the fear and pain, Lea and her family are under massive financial stress, which is why we are asking for your help. Lea’s caring and wonderful husband Todd has had to stop work to look after Lea and their two children full time, cutting them off from a steady income. They have also needed to relocate away from friends to Queensland to be closer to family support and so that Lea can access life-saving 'gamma knife' radiation therapy not available to her in Melbourne.
Your money will directly support Lea and her family over the next year as she undergoes this immense and crucial surgery, radiation and the concurrent recovery and heap of costs incurred.
With this fundraiser we are hoping to remove the financial burden Lea and her family are currently under, and give back to a woman who has spent her life giving to the community. We deeply value who Lea is and her contributions to development and community. And for the many people she has reached out to help - here is your opportunity make a tangible difference. Lea and her family won't be able to get through this time without us.
If all goes well Lea will write a book about her experience and everyone who donates will get access to an e-edition.
