Changing the Narrative on Mental Health in Nigeria
Too many people in Nigeria are suffering in silence. I know, because I was once one of them. My name is Kelvin Opiepie, and after my own struggle with depression, I founded LEAD Community Foundation in 2018 to break the stigma and bring hope to schools and communities.
Since then, we’ve reached over 30,000 people and Trained 300+ mental health first aiders now supporting schools and communities but millions still face stigma, isolation, and lack of support.
Why This Matters
In Nigeria, millions live with depression and other mental health challenges, yet stigma and lack of resources keep most from getting help. Too many suffer in silence, facing isolation and hopelessness.
What We Do
LEAD Community Foundation is changing this by:
1. Educating schools and communities on mental health
2. Training mental health first aiders to provide immediate support
3. Creating safe spaces and support groups for healing
4. Breaking stigma through awareness and advocacy
Since 2018, our work has impacted tens of thousands but this is only the beginning. Together, we can ensure no one has to suffer in silence.
