Leah Lost Everything in the Fire

I am raising funds for our daughter, Leah, who lives in Altadena, California. Yesterday, January 7, at about 6:40 p.m., Leah sent us a text saying there was a fire in Eaton Canyon, Altadena, east of her apartment. She wasn't too concerned but did worry about losing power and wind damage. Wind gusts were at record speeds. At about 7:00, Leah sent a photo of various fire locations in the area. We all started telling her to "Get Out!" She didn't want to leave, as the wind was wild and roads littered with tree branches and trash. At about 8:15, Andrew (Ella's dad) came over with his cat. Leah said most of her friends were evacuating. Joe and I were watching news coverage of another fire near the coast (the Palisade fire) and hearing testimonies of how quickly the fire had overtaken so many people. By 9:30, Leah, Ella, Andrew, and three cats had packed the car and were on their way to our house. They expected to be back in their homes in a day or two, so they brought only 2 changes of clothing. They could not imagine the fire getting to their apartment.

This afternoon, friends drove past her apartment and sent the picture at the top of this story. Her apartment and everything in it burned to the ground. Leah is incredibly strong and will overcome this new adversity. Leah is loved in the community and many friends have already given her funds to start putting her material life back together. I would like to focus on housing and raise enough funds to subsidize what will be much higher rent for the next six months. Housing is going to be hard to find and without a doubt will be at a much higher rate than what she's been paying. Will you join with me in helping Leah?
