Grow Spanish Children's Book Collection @ MGM Public Library
Donation protected
September 15, 2024 UPDATE:
Last week, I embarked on a social media/email frenzy by contacting as many Spanish-language bookstores or book publishers to ask for their support and I got exactly one response for the wonderful folks at Cinco Books! Cinco Books will be offering me the same discount they offer schools and libraries and throw in free shipping! They also curated a collection of 30 Spanish-language children's books for us. They spent an hour and a half on zoom with me showing me each book and explaining why they felt it would be a good addition to a library collection. I cannot emphasize how cool this was. I was actually moved to tears at multiple points, which should surprise no one.
The books list that Cinco Books together for books includes books from Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, and many other Spanish-speaking countries. You won't find most of these books at Amazon or Barnes and Nobles! The stories are vibrant, diverse, and full of amor. I can't wait to place our order! I encourage you to consider shopping with them next time you're in the market for a children's book.
I will post another update when we place our order, and another when our books arrive!
Again, thank you so very much for your support!

ORIGINAL POST:
Almost 250,000 people live in Montgomery County, Alabama, but our public library system has fewer than 200 children's books in Spanish!
In honor of our small-ish but very mighty Spanish-speaking community, and in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15), I want to DOUBLE the size of the Spanish catalogue!
Please note that your donation will go to ME, not the public library system. I'm hoping I can meet our fundraising goal in a few weeks, and I'll then order lots and lots of books to arrive sometime at the end of September. I've reached out to a few publishers to see if I can get some wholesale discounts (if anyone has any connections or ideas, let me know!)
Thank you for supporting our community!
