Leaphart Elementary Playground Buddy Bench Fund

My 7 year old son attends Leaphart Elementary School and has since Kindergarten. However, this year he had a difficult time socially and emotionally. Making friends was difficult and often he felt lonely, left out, and made what was supposed to be fun on the playground into something he dreaded.

Buddy Benches are benches placed on the playground for kids who want to make new friends. Whether the child may be new to the school, wants to make new friends, their friend isn’t at school that day, or they want to play something different than their friends are playing, buddy benches affords them a safe and stress free way to do so. Teachers and other children will see the child sitting on the bench and know to take action. The teacher can encourage the other children to be the child’s buddy and other children looking to make friends know to go to the buddy bench.

Leaphart Elementary School has agreed to allow me to provide and install the buddy benches. They must be commercial benches and be professionally installed. They are pretty expensive on average $800 a piece, plus installation hardware, in addition to installation cost for a contractor.
