Leave no student behind
Leave no student behind - How it all started
Having seen stories over the last couple of days regarding students across all education levels not having access to laptops and this obviously has a detrimental effect on their learning. As a university lecturer, I know the challenges of online learning and the pressures it puts on both the teaching staff and students when access to online learning is difficult. For schools this is in many ways a much harder obstacle to overcome.
So I set myself a birthday challenge to give to someone in need instead of gifts for me.
The challenge was get a new Chromebook for a student at a local primary school where two of my nephews attend.
I’m pleased to say that I accomplished this thanks to my family for funding the first laptop in lieu of gifts for me, but I wanted to do more.
To make a difference to more students I set an original target of £1000 by the end of January which was enough to buy an additional 5 Chromebooks that would be powerful enough for them to take part in their lessons and would make such a difference to their learning. I hit this target in 48hrs and knew that I had to keep going as there were more students in desperate need so decided that ultimately I wanted to raise enough for 25 Chromebooks - This would mean getting a total of £5000 raised.
Please help me make a difference to a students learning journey.
