What are Blood Bikes?
Blood bikes have been running in some parts of the UK since the late 1960s. They provide an out-of-hours courier service transporting essential medical items such as blood, pathology & microbiology specimens, medical notes, pharmaceutical products and donor breast milk between hospitals and healthcare facilities. This service is offered completely free of charge.
Currently there are 30 county based groups with approximately 1800 volunteers covering the UK. Together they responded to over 49,000 calls in 2016.
The main aims of Blood Bikes are:
1: Save money for the National Health Service.
2: Save Lives.
3: Promote a positive image of motorcyclists.
About Blood Bikes
Who are LEBBS?
Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bikes Service (LEBBS) were formed in January 2012, initially covering Boston and Grantham Hospitals, it wasn’t long before the service was extended to include Lincoln County Hospital.
In 2016 Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole Hospitals were added to our coverage area, which now means our delivery range includes, but is not limited to, Hull Royal Infirmary and to the regional NHS Blood and Transplant Centre in Sheffield.
We are constantly in discussions with the local NHS Trusts, ensuring we understand the requirements for Lincolnshire and enabling us to continue making a difference in our area.
