FOR LEEKEESHA P. WATERTON'S CHILDREN

Donation protected
Keesha was born on November 1, 1978 in Trinidad W.I. to Charles and Marilyn. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 5.

Keesha is an Air Force Veteran and she worked more than 15 years as a civil service
employee.

Her children remember her as a kind, gentle, patient and driven mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Keesha was an active and dedicated member of the community and often helped anyone when needed.

She was a generous, witty, dedicated individual who loved people and was passionate about helping the Children of New York City.

Keesha worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for about three years, the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) for seven years and for NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) for five years. She served as Secretary for the Commissioner of the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) from 2007 to 2014.

While at OCFS, Keesha was instrumental in establishing regional advisory boards and instituting operational guidelines for the efficient and effective management of the NYS OCFS Downstate Regional Office. She was awarded Employee of the Month and coordinated the distribution of free books for children in child welfare, juvenile justice, early child care and other programs serving disadvantaged children.

Keesha most recently served as Executive Assistant in the Commissioner’s Office at ACS since 2014. She also served as liaison and lead on many projects relating to Budget, Financial Services, Procurement, HR/Personnel, Analytics, Event Planning, Information Technology, City Hall, several Human Services agencies, as well as programming for youth, to list a few.

Keesha leaves behind three amazing Daughters: Lanaya, Leah and Lynay. She is survived by her Parents Charles and Marilyn Lindsay, Husband Ronay Waterton and his family, Fitzgerald and Paula Waterton, Avery, Ryan, Angelica, Dianne and Earl; Siblings Elijah, Hassan and Naim Lindsay; Aunts Sherma, Patsy and Pernetta; Uncles Sherwin Williams and Leary Wilson; and Grandmothers Flora Williams and Sereta Lindsay.

Leekeesha's unexpected passing left her colleagues and friends bereft, but the loss to her three wonderful daughters is a hurt that we cannot remove. Yet we can, to the best of our ability, deliver on some of what this dedicated Mom, this veteran, this role model intended. For the schooling of these girls - for their emotional needs and their well-being, this fund will be used to fill the gaps, soften the pain and fulfill the promise.

Update: This GoFundMe page was established to support Lanaya, Leah, and Lynay by Yessenia Cardona, a friend and colleague at NYC and New York State Child Welfare agencies, where Leekesha was employed prior to her passing, and Gladys Carrion, a former supervisor and mentor of Leekeesha at both agencies she worked for. Gladys Carrion was also Commissioner of each of those agencies at the time of Leekeesha's employment. Yessenia and Gladys will be withdrawing the funds to their joint account, established exclusively to deliver funds to Lanaya, Leah, and Lynay. No administrative feeswill be deducted, and all funds collected will be delivered directly to Lanaya, Leah, and Lynay.
