Leenane Amenity Park - "Our Field"
Welcome to the Leenane Development Associations ‘Go Fund Me Page’.
We are looking to raise €125,000 in conjunction with our own fundraising initiatives. The money raised will be used to help us obtain matching funding from the various local government grants that are available in order for us to build ‘Leenane Community Park’. Firstly, I would like to briefly introduce our village.
Leenane
Leenane is a small village on the Mayo-Galway border, at the head of Killary harbour, Ireland's only fjord. Leenane is famous for the stunning and varied beauty of its location. It is this which has been attracting artists, sportsmen, geologists and leisure seekers for over 150 years. Sheep dot the high hills, roaming wide and free, and salmon can be seen leaping the beautiful Aasleagh falls at the head of the fjord. The population of our village is approximately 200 people and this is why we are reaching out to you to assist as part of our fundraising campaign.
Leenane Development Association:
The Leenane Development Association is a committee of local volunteers whose sole function is to facilitate growth and improve quality of life within Leenane Village and the surrounding areas for locals and visitors alike.
Registered Charity Number: Chy21078
Leenane Community Park:
Our village does not currently have any green field site or playground whereby people can come for recreation purposes. Our vision is to provide a safe, sustainable home for our community on the grounds of the old Kilbride GAA pitch that has been generously leased to the LDA for free by the trustees of the land for the next 20 years and beyond.
This project has been in the planning now for more than 10 years. Our biggest milestone to date has been obtaining planning permission as of February 2019. The community park once developed will provide the following amenities:
-- Gravelled walking / running path
-- Multi Use Grass Area playing field
-- Disabled Access Toilet Facilities
-- 20 Car Parking Spaces & 1 electric vehicle charging station
-- Children’s Play Areas including sand pit
-- Adult Exercise Area
-- BBQ area, picnic benches and general seating
We anticipate that the total development will cost in the region of €450,000. In order to pursue a grant from the local authorities / government agencies, we must firstly have our own funding in the region of 10% to 25% depending on the scheme. Our goal is to raise 25% of the total funding required with this Go Fund Me Page and through other community fundraising ideas.
Thank you all for visiting our page and in advance for your generosity, no matter how big or small. We invite you to come and experience the village of Leenane the next time you visit the West of Ireland.
