Leanne has been living and working in Whistler as an active member of our community for 10 years
She came here from Australia and found a new home in this beautiful mountain town. Many of us got to know her as the office manager at Northlands Medical Clinic for many years.
She is one of those girls, always ready to lend a hand, taking on rescue dogs, babysitting at the last minute, volunteering at school and community events, and helping troubleshoot visa and medical coverage issues for countless visitors to town.
In November, just after the much anticipated arrival of her son, Reece from Australia to live with his Mum and sister, Corey, Lee got news that was hard to believe.
She was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, which had spread from her colon, through into the pelvis.
Lee is facing months of chemotherapy, followed by surgery and radiation therapy.
She is travelling frequently down to BC Cancer Agency, and will be very limited in her capacity to work over the next 12-18 months.
As a single mother this is unmanageable without the support of her community, family and friends
Lee is a proud and private person. She investigated every avenue she could to manage this situation on her own She was not able to get adequate insurance coverage due to previous medical issues and her only option is 15 weeks of employment insurance. This is just not enough to support her kids
Donations will be used to help Lee finance her travel expenses, assist with the cost of anti nausea drugs, some complementary and alternative treatments that are not covered by BC Medical plan or pharmacare and help to support Corey who is in Grade 10 at Whistler Secondary School
We know what a great community we have here in Whistler and are sure that all who know Lee would be ready to chip in whatever they can to help Lee and her kids on this healing journey
