Opie's Medical Bills after LVAD Heart Transplant

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kelly, and I am raising money for my Brother-in-law Opie Blevins, to help with the medical bills incurred, when Opie had a massive heart attack that almost took his life.

Opie recently had a massive heart attack. While in surgery it was discovered that Opie's heart would no longer be able to work properly to keep him alive. Opie is needing a heart transplant. To keep him alive at this time, he is having to use an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assistance Device) unit to continually circulate his blood through his body. This is a device that he has to carry around with him everywhere he goes.

And it has to run 24/7, and did I mention it is battery operated!!

This is keeping him from:
  • working his new job position, which he just transferred to Crystal River, Fl. from North Carolina, less than a year earlier.
  • Making payments on the house that he had also bought earlier in the year.
  • Providing for both his wife, and his mother-in-law that had moved in with them.

  • Taking care of the house, which now has to hire out if the task is too great. (which at this point is just about everything)

The Stress

Imagine, if you will, having to deal with the stress of continually stressing about:
  • the machine that is surgically connected to your body.
  • The constant threat of infection.
  • making sure your batteries are charged and making sure you have a backup, just in case.
  • And now worrying about how you are going to financially keep a roof over your family's head.

All the while your doctors are telling you that you need to eliminate stress in your life!!!

And then one day you open the mail.......

And this is just the first round of bills to come from the hospital. These bills only cover the emergency surgeries to add the initial stints to keep him alive long enough to get the LVAD connected to his heart.

the LVAD surgery bill has still yet to come. Not to mention in the future a heart transplant will be needed to allow Opie to have somewhat of a normal life again. And all of this, sadly, will have a bill attached to it.

And yes, this is definitely one of those stories, where Opie is a person who will do what he can to help all those around him but has trouble asking for help himself. That is why I am creating this donation page. To ask for your help, on his behalf.

About Opie

Opie is a loving husband, a father, a grandfather, a decorated Veteran, and the oldest of 5 brothers and sisters. He has always been a quiet but direct man that would help you in any way he could. He will listen to you when you need it, and give you the advice you need, even when you don't think you need it. He has had to overcome many obstacles throughout his life. And just like he is doing now, he has fought through them all to make the best life that he could for his family. He is caring for his mother-in-law who has medical conditions of her own. He, along with his other brother and sisters, loves and looks after his mom, and spends time with her as much as he can.

During his 6 years of service in the early '80s, Opie was a part of the Army's 101st Airborn division.

Your Donation

We understand that with the way the economic climate is right now, it is very hard for people to give like they would want, to help others out. But at this point, any donation is a blessing for Opie and his family. Even if the donation is just a dollar, it's a dollar that they will not need to stress about. If a financial donation is just not possible at this time, all we ask is that you just share this with all your friends on social media. Friends of friends can easily reach 100K people in no time. Then, just giving a dollar, would easily surpass our goal. Although our goal is short of what is needed, we are hoping that people will continue to give what they can to eventually get Opie and his wife back on their feet financially, and give him the piece of mind needed to get stronger and healthier.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this page and donate, or help in any way you can. You can't even imagine how this will help him and his family. Please also leave some words of encouragement below. Not only are we trying to help financially but we want to fill his soul with good thoughts and prayers to help him heal.
