Lee's Retirement Fund

Primarily, our mission with this platform is to shed light on the challenging battle my brother Lee has been experiencing since his diagnosis of Ewing Sarcoma.

Sarcoma is a family of bone and muscle cancers, Lees journey began with extreme pain, leading to multiple hospital visits. Doctors have difficulty detecting this type of cancer and unfortunately in my brother's case, like many others, it was caught too late. The months it went undetected the cancer cells were rapidly growing and aggressively spreading throughout lee’s body.

The prognosis of Lee’s diagnosis was the hardest thing we as a family, and his close friends who care deeply about him had to go through. Being told at 21 your life will end in the next few years ‘at best’, is something no one could ever prepare you for, we were all in complete shock and still are. Despite the challenges, Lee, a resilient fighter has undergone spinal surgery and started his chemotherapy. Enduring a delayed and misdiagnosed situation, he faced neglect from the hospital but through sheer determination he has come a long way.

We have marked Halloween, Christmas and new year's in the hospital, hoping to celebrate easter in the comfort of our home to ease this transition we aim to make Lees move home as comfortable as possible with the help of this GoFundMe campaign.

Initially we were all lost and confused about what we were fighting for, the doctors left us with no hope. Our strength was tested during this difficult time. Lee had so many questions, like how he could continue living when he knows his future is being taken from him. We have come to understand the significance of every single moment we spend together even if it's in a hospital room. Most importantly no one's life is guaranteed and every day is unpredictable, but for now our focus is to create memories and tick off lee’s bucket list of life through this GoFundMe initiative.

Lee’s cancer is terminal and incurable, we wish we were raising funds for experimental trials or potential treatments. Regretablly none are accessible in Ireland currently, however with the GoFundMe support we will send lee’s scans worldwide, seeking more answers. However, Me his little sister and my mother Laura will go to the end of the earth to make sure lee has the best memories with the ones he loves the most over the next while. For those familiar with lee, his infectious smile and personality and ability to make anyone laugh, have earned this campaign the title of ‘lee’s Retirment fund’

We encourage everyone who experiences unusual pains to get them checked out. If dismissed by hospitals, persist and advocate for yourself, you know your body best.
