Matthew Leo Plomin
August 11, 1980 – November 17, 2024
Matthew Leo Plomin, 44, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 17, 2024, at IU Arnett Hospital. His sudden passing has left his family, friends, and colleagues heartbroken, but they find solace in the cherished memories and lasting legacy he leaves behind.
Born on August 11, 1980, in Peoria, Illinois, Matt was the beloved son of Leo and Carol (Ammerman) Plomin.
Matt's life was a tapestry woven with intellect, ambition, and an abiding love for his family and faith. He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School before embarking on an academic journey that took him to Purdue University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Management with minors in International Business, Finance, and Economics. He later achieved his MBA in Economics and Quantitative Finance from The George Washington University, where he was a Mount Vernon Academic Fellow.
Matt had a heart for public service and leadership. From 2003 to 2007, he served as a City Councilman in West Lafayette, Indiana, where he worked to improve his community and advocate for local issues. His dedication to making a positive impact was evident in every endeavor he undertook.
On February 22, 2008, Matt married the love of his life, Jillian Shaw, in a beautiful ceremony in El Salvador. Together, they built a life centered around their seven children—Karol, Patrick, Maximilian, Reagan, JohnPaul “Jack,” Joseph, and Theodore “Teddy.” Matt, a devoted husband and father, enjoyed spending time with his family and sharing his love for cooking, sports, learning, and God.
Professionally, Matt was a force of nature. As a founding partner of the USDM Stablecoin, Matt was instrumental in the construction and regulatory compliance of groundbreaking financial technologies. Matt also led with vision and determination as the U.S. Head of Money Market Credit for DWS Group. Overseeing teams across New York, Frankfurt, San Francisco, and India, he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues through his expertise and leadership.
Despite his impressive career, Matt remained deeply rooted in his faith and community. A devout Catholic, he attended Our Lady of Assumption in Fairfield, CT, followed by St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lafayette, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed fellowship with friends as a member of the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Matt’s passion for life extended beyond his career and family. Whether perfecting a recipe in the kitchen, playing a round of golf, or cheering on the Chicago Cubs, Matt enthusiastically embraced every moment. His humor, warmth, and tireless dedication to his loved ones will forever be cherished.
Matt leaves a legacy of love and achievement that will continue to inspire those who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Leo and Carol Plomin; his cherished wife, Jillian; his seven children, Karol, Patrick, Maximilian, Reagan, JohnPaul "Jack," Joseph, and Theodore "Teddy"; his sister, Abigail (Colin) Fogarty; and his grandmother, Phyllis Ammerman; He is reunited in eternal peace with his grandparents, Leo Plomin Sr., Dorothy Plomin, and Wayne Ammerman, and his cousin, Michael Messina.
Matt’s life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Boniface Catholic Church at 10 am, on Monday, November 25th. Any donations made in lieu of flowers will go to a scholarship fund for the Plomin children.
While his passing leaves an immeasurable void, Matt’s legacy of faith, family, and innovation will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
