Legacy: Women of Southeast Ohio Film

Legacy: Women of Southeast Ohio is a series of four short documentary films that will preserve the legacies of four strong, wise women in Athens County, Ohio.

These matriarchs have spent their lifetimes uplifting others through service, fighting for social justice and improving their communities through courage and hard work. In these films, we will focus on the lives of Ada Woodson Adams, Dr. Francine Childs, Dr. Dru Riley Evarts, and Carol Kuhre.

Documenting the life stories of these four women in their own words is truly an honor. This project will archive their voices and personal narratives, to ensure their legacies are passed on to the next generation of young women and change makers. We are thrilled to be adding these films to the rich historical vibrancy of the Nelsonville and Athens Ohio communities. 

What will we do with your support?

Director and Executive Producer Liz Pahl and her production team have all four women’s primary interviews completed, with 75% of the supporting interviews complete. Your support will allow for the remaining footage to be shot by Andie Walla and for our Emmy Award winning Video Editor, Melissa Salpietra (based in Charlotte, NC) to begin editing this project. Associate Producer, Delia Palmisano has recently joined our team, and will continue to work with Liz to get these films finished.

Your funding support will also enable us to further market these powerful films. We plan to build a website and build a social media presence for the project. We also plan to submit the films to film festivals around the United States. If our films are admitted, the opportunity could bring national recognition to these women's lives and to our region. We are looking forward to cultivating the larger community conversation about the importance of listening to and incorporating the voices of women in our communities.
