Legacy's Eye Surgery in Spain
Donation protected
Legacy was born at home December, 19th 2021 @ 8:29pm. We quickly noticed his eyes were smaller than normal, but did not think much of it since he slept most of the time.
When we took him to the pediatrician they recommended we go see an optometrist to see what was causing him to not fully open his eyes. The optometrist ruled out ptosis which was something we thought he had before bringing him in. The Dr. was very certain Legacy had a development delay and that’s why his eyes were not fully opening. Even though I was relieved by the doctors diagnosis I didn’t feel like it was right so I got a second opinion and a third opinion which left me with no answers.
Fast forward to today, and we finally found a Doctor that diagnosed Legacy with severe Ptosis in both of his eyes.
Ptosis is when the upper eyelid droops over the eye causing a limited vision to the person that has it. It can cause double vision as they grow and even blindness.
Unfortunately, in the United States almost all Doctors perform sling surgeries for a quick fix for ptosis, but it does not last forever, often times even resulting in multiple surgeries throughout their life.
We found a great Doctor in Spain who specializes in repairing the muscle in the eyelids which will be permanent solution. Dr. Medel recommended to perform surgery on Legacy in 3 months. Since it is out of the country, everything for this surgery and recovery will be out of pocket, we are gathering funds to get the best treatment for our baby.
We really appreciate anything you can donate for Legacy!
